- 1 cup of toor dal (split pigeon peas)
- 1 cup of basmati rice
- 4 cups of water
- 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
- Salt to taste

- 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds
- 2-3 dried red chilies
- A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
- 2-3 curry leaves
